Videos not appearing for translation

Hi everyone!

Hope everyone is feeling well :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I noticed some videos from Plum Village App Youtube Channel that have English subtitles, but don’t have Portuguese ones. Which is weird because it doesn’t appear on my list to translate:

I give some examples that I translated in the meantime:

Also, I cannot find them on Vimeo, which is also weird.

Hope someone can help me with this

Thanks! :star:

Hi dear Carolina,

Thank you for your kind words. Let me share this situation with other team members and get back to you asap.

In the meantime, I hope you’re enjoying the weekend :cherry_blossom::tulip:

Thank you very much for your kindness and dedication in this work with us,

Hi Carolina,

So the reason is because these videos are on YouTube but not on the app. And our tool only shows videos that are on the app, in that list. This is also why they are not on Vimeo, because we did not add them to the app.

Would you find it helpful in future if we could extend the tool to include the videos that are only on YouTube? This never came up yet because in most languages there are still plenty of videos in the list that need translated subtitles, but thanks to your dedication you completed the translation of everything into Portuguese.

If it was possible, I would appreciate it :star_struck:

I’m now supporting in adding subtitles in English since I don’t have videos to translate

Who is responsible on the English side to add those emails to the app? I don’t mind doing, but I don’t want to overstep anyone.

thanks!

Hi dear Carolina, there are many friends who are offering their English subtitles to the app videos. We just contribute whenever there’s a video that needs English subs.

I suggest that you do whatever you can, no worries :+1:

Thank you very much and have a beautiful weekend,:cherry_blossom:

Who is responsible on the English side to add those emails to the app?

@Carolina_Marinho I think you maybe meant “videos” not “emails”? (Or was it “subtitles”? If “subtitles” then Tuyen has answered the question very well)

For adding videos to the app the answer is a bit more complex I think….

If a video is on YouTube but not on the app there may be a reason for that, and I would suggest checking in with others who may have an understanding of that before adding them to the app for English. In particular @Anca_Rusu may know in these cases as she manages our YouTube channel.

One reason that I am aware of to not add all the videos is that some of the videos are already in the app in audio form. We would have added them on YouTube as videos because it is the only way we can share them on YouTube as a video platform. But we probably do not need to add them to the app as videos when they are already there as audios (which is actually preferred for many people in the case of meditations).

In future we may add a “transcript” feature to the app so that we would have something similar to subtitles for the audio tracks.

about this @Justin_Emery if we could add them I would appreciate it  . We use YouTube regularly to share teachings in our sangha :star:

OK it is on my list now to look into. I am not certain if it is possible yet or when I will be able to do it but I will let you know if I find a way to add them to the tool.
