Do we take subtitle backups?

Dear Friends,

A question, please: do we take backups of all the subtitles we have produced, or do we depend on service providers to take the backups for us?

Thank you,
–Matthew

Hi Matthew,

As far as subtitle backups are concerned, there’s a download button next to all subtitle languages on Amara. And from my last contact with Amara, I learned that as long as we subtitled on Amara, they could retrieve the files upon request if there was any problem with downloading these files. But that was a while ago. Not sure if there have been any changes in their policy recently.

Have you run into any problems with subtitling a video that need backups? Do you need my help to get in touch with Amara? I’ll be glad to help if that’s the case.

Thank you,

:folded_hands:

Just to add a bit of extra info on this: we do have a copy and backup for every subtitle track in Plum Village App. So if something happened to Amara we would still have the subtitles.

For videos that are only on YouTube it is a bit different. They would be on Amara and on YouTube but we do not have our own separate backup in those cases.

Thank you both for your replies. I’m glad that we have at least some backups. :slightly_smiling_face:
